WWII Merchant Mariners Meet Through A Magazine

An article in a local magazine brought two World War II Merchant Marines together to meet for the first time. 

Harold Wellington, of Brevard, and Bob Bessell, of Tryon, chose the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas for the place to sit and reminisce about facing German U-Boats as they crossed the Atlantic Ocean in Liberty Ships 80 years ago. 

  Wellington sponsored a new exhibit at the veterans museum dedicated to the Merchant Mariner. Several local media outlets interviewed Wellington about his exhibit when it opened in March.  Bessell's son found Wellington's picture in Bold Li...
