In the wake of this month’s tragic fall of the Afghan state to the Taliban, scores of Afghan men, women and children have become displaced and are without stable homes. USA for UNHCR, the U.N. Refugee Agency, reports that an estimated 550,000 Afghans have been newly displaced inside the country since January 2021, and nearly 400,000 of these since May, primarily due to insecurity and violence. Nearly 6,000,000 Afghans have been driven out of their homes by conflict, violence, and poverty. And 80 percent of all recently-displaced Afghans are women and children.
