Mountain Skies Jupiter And Saturn Stand Highest At Midnight

The Planets: Last month we noted that both Saturn and Jupiter had gone through their points of opposition, Saturn on July 2 and Jupiter on the 19th. This is a time when these planets are rising in evening twilight and remain visible until morning twilight. Tonight, as the twilight fades, look for a very bright Jupiter rising in the southeast with the dimmer Saturn to its right. Jupiter is in the very eastern side of Capricornus the seagoat, almost in Aquarius, while Saturn is on the western side near Sagittarius.
