Damage Update Given

On Friday during Gov. Roy Cooper’s visit, Transylvania County officials gave him an update on damages from the flooding and efforts to help those impacted.

County Manager Jaime Laughter said preliminary estimates show there was $16.6 million in private or individual-type damage from the storm. This excules all the roads and bridges and other assets damaged, she said.

Those impacted include 109 private buildings, 20 private roads, 15 private bridges and a Balsam Grove trout farm that lost 190,000 pounds of fish, plus a bridge to the farm and residences. Public infrastructure damage incl...
