Thomas England was the nephew of Alexander England Jr., one of the three men who donated land for the county seat of Brevard when Transylvania County was formed in 1861. Thomas owned a dry goods business at the corner of Broad and Main streets, the present-day site of OP Taylor's. Thomas built a home on West Main Street in about 1890, where he and his wife, Mary Charlotte King England, raised three daughters, Edith, Bertha and Ethel.
