School Board Upholds Mask Policy

Mandatory mask wearing will continue for at least another month in Transylvania County Schools after the Board of Education on Monday voted 4-1 to uphold its current policy.

Board member Kimsey Jackson voted against the move. As required by state law, the school board must reconsider the policy at least once a month.

Prior to the vote, Assistant Superintendent Brian Weaver shared the latest COVID-19 statistics for the school system, according to Transylvania Public Health. As of Monday, since Aug. 2, 345 students in all the schools combined have tested positive for the virus.
