The following briefs are from the Thursday, Sept. 30, 1971, edition of The Transylvania Times.

•The Cedar Mountain community won the Roadside Improvement Contest for 1971 in Western North Carolina. The first place price was a $150 check.

A total of 59 comminutes competed in this year’s competition.

•Dr. Robert Davis, president of Brevard College, will be the principal speaker at the United Fund Kickoff Breakfast at Berry’s restaurant. Earl Johnson, president of the United Fund, has announced the campaign goal of $55,266.63.

•N.C. Attorney General Robert Morgan spoke at a lunch...
