A Favorite Hike: Trekking To Cold Mountain's Summit

Recently, the weather has taken a turn towards autumn, with brisk mornings and evenings and gorgeous, temperate afternoons.

Hiking in the early fall is my favorite time of year.

The shadows grow longer and the golden glow of the sun just before it sets seems to get more intense as we slip into the winter months.

Normally this time of year I would be scheming up hiking trips to take, pouring over maps, and picking out trails and peaks I've never done before.

This year, however, I will most likely be enjoying the fall weather from much less exciting locations.
