Fateful Flight Leads To German POW Camp

Editor's note: The following are more parts of the series telling the story of Lt. Kenneth Fry, a World War II B-24 pilot. His son, Transylvania County res-ident Douglas Fry, researched and wrote his father's story.

The first part of the story appeared in the Oct. 18 edition of The Transylvania Times

Fry was piloting a B-24J Liberator on his 10th mission on Aug. 23, 1944.

He didn't know this would be his last.

This Group Mission #102 was to bomb a railroad bridge over the Po River in Ferrara, Italy.

This was a priority target because it was the only land route in this area that...
