Thomas Jefferson had a fairly impressive resume. Our third president wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence (which originally contained a strong denunciation of slavery), negotiated the Louisiana Purchase (the largest land acquisition in American history) and founded the University Virginia.
He’s been honored with a place on Mount Rushmore (so far, anyway) and at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC.
