"I'm sorry it's raining on your watch," I said to Linda Novosel-Bohn as she prepared to exit the warmth of the Veterans History Museum for the cold drizzle on the courthouse lawn.
"That's OK," she said quietly. "The rain will hide my tears."
Something exceptional occurred at the Transylvania County War Memorial from 2:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Nov. 11.
Gone was the crowd of observers who had huddled under umbrellas that dreary morning to observe the Veterans Day ceremonies.
