Two Local Veterans Are Honored With Quilts Of Valor

Eugene Staton (left) and Richard Bennett, both U.S. Army veterans, were honored with Quilts of Valor.

On Nov. 13 at the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas, the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation honored Eugene Staton and Richard Bennett with handmade, originally-designed patriotic quilts, reading details of each veteran's service to the county.

Staton served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956, in the Secret Service during the Korean Conflict. He served in Mannheim, Germany, as a unit leader of Cryptograph Operations, reporting to The Pentagon. His quilt was made by Elizabeth Schultz and quilted by Maryanne Gilbert.
